Tungsten Carbide Cutting & Wear Rods

Surface Engineering supplies a full line of brazing style rods containing tungsten carbide chips of various size and morphology designed for wear and milling / cutting applications.  Downhole components are the primary application for these products. “Fishing” tools are commonly produced and repaired utilizing larger, sharp chips of tungsten carbide which provides for the “machining” of lost downhole tools. The larger chips also provide for excellent rock grinding applications. Smaller carbide pieces with a more blocky morphology are best suited for wear applications. Anywhere metal comes in contact with the earth, this product will perform very well.  Typically, a Nickel Silver or Silicon Bronze matrix is chosen as a binder, but for the wear applications, a binder of Nickel/Chrome/Boron provides for a more abrasion and erosion resistant matrix.  3/8” diameter is the most popular size but we also offer smaller sizes if required.  The rods may be flux coated or bare depending on preference.

Applications include casing shoes, junk mills, section mills, coiled tubing mills, stabilizers, fishing tools, mining tools.
